SUBJECT : NO SERVICES, NO TAXES

ISSUED BY : Dr. Conrad Beyers

CAPACITY : FF Plus Spokesperson: Finance

DATE : 1 April 2011

The Freedom Front Plus has warned that the ANC is feeding off a small minority of South African taxpayers but that this minority is increasingly feeling that they do not get any value for their money.

The FF Plus also said that the party’s slogan for the municipal election, “no services, no taxes” is focussing on the basic principle that people expect to get something in exchange for their tax money rather than encouraging people to withhold their taxes.

This follows on enquiries of the public who had noted the slogan on the party’s placards.

According to the FF Plus’ spokesperson on Finance, Dr. Conrad Beyers, the ANC is creating a “powerful minority” which is currently subsidising the majority through their tax contributions.

A shrinking group of taxpayers, at present approximately 5 million people, has to carry 15 million people in a total population of nearly 50 million people in the form of social grants. The same situation goes for municipalities where municipal income is covered by a relatively small group of residents to carry the municipality financially.

“Taxpayers are prepared that a portion of their taxes go toward poverty alleviation, development, former disadvantaged communities and job creation but they also demand that proper services are rendered in exchange for their money. There is an increasing serious uneasiness as to how the government is spending taxes. South Africa could come to a standstill if this powerful minority decides to close the hand from which the ANC is feeding so fervently,” Beyers said.

The FF Plus wants to with this campaign send a message to government that proper services provided to taxpayers could prevent such a future scenario.
