Former deputy minister in court for car theft

In South Africa, the biggest criminals are often found in government or in parliament, such as the hundreds of Members of Parliament who had defrauded the country's seat of government during the so-called parliamentary travel scandal.

However, on Tuesday, former Social Development deputy minister, David Malatsi, appeared in court in Ekangala near Bronkhorstpruit, the SABC reported.

Malatsi was granted R5000 bail in connection with his alleged possession of a stolen vehicle.

Constable Sally Skosana was reported by the SABC as saying the Ford Bantam bakkie was reported missing from a car dealer in Centurion, south of Pretoria, on Monday.

Malatsi's case was postponed until August 28.
