Corruption IndexA vote for the ANC is a vote for more nepotism, more misspending, more cronyism, more jobs for pals and more billboards paid for by voters, Inkatha Freedom Party president Mangosuthu Buthelezi said on Saturday.

"Never has this province been in such trouble. What this province needs is someone who can address the failures of the present government and turn things around," he said at the launch of party's provincial manifesto in Durban on Saturday.

"The answer does not lie in more talkshops, more policy workshops and more consultants. The answer lies in leadership. Right now the province lacks leadership, he continued.

The party said it adopted the "Tried and Tested Alternative" slogan because it had many capable and well-grounded leaders who were in government for a very long time.

National chairperson Zanele Kamagwaza-Msibi said the IFP did not want to play the "politics of promises" but instead committed itself to a coherent and workable plan of action.

"I passionately believe that with the right plan of action and a best team to implement it, KwaZulu Natal can become South Africa's most prosperous province, for which it has tremendous...potential," she said.

The manifesto identified key areas of governance in the province redress and progress are needed urgently, the party said.

The key areas were education, health, economic development, housing, agriculture and transport.

"Ours are real solutions to real problems," she said.

Msibi said they were also determined to promote social solidarity and fight corruption. A growing crowd of at last 2,000 supporters had converged at Durban's Curries Fountain stadium for the manifesto launch.

A strong police presence was visible at the event, which saw over 2,000 people converged at Curries Fountain stadium, with no incidents of violence being reported thus far.
