Johannesburg - AfriForum Youth on Wednesday lodged a charge of hate speech against the SA Students Congress (Sasco), for putting up contentious posters for a student council election at a university in Cape Town.
"The poster is racist, xenophobic and inciting," AfriForum Youth chairperson Ernst Roets said in a statement.
"Since the matter could not be resolved by talks, AfriForum Youth is left with no other option but to take it to the next level... to lodge a charge with the SA Human Rights Commission in Johannesburg," he said.
A hate speech charge was laid on Tuesday for the use of potentially derogatory terms - "One Boer one bullet" and "Blacks only organisation (strictly South Africans)" - in the poster.
The youth body had sent a letter to Sasco president Mbulelo Mandlana after receiving complaints about the posters put up at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
The letter asked Mandlana whether the poster was a reflection of its policy and if not, to distance itself from the wording and take action against the students involved.
Roets said Mandlana apparently then railed against AfriForum Youth during a media conference in response.
Sasco could not be reached for comment.
