There is an ever increasing concern that the Afrikaner people are marginalised, a spokesman for the Voortrekker Monument Heritage Foundation said on Friday.
"Afrikaners do not attend public holidays activities, because they [feel] marginalised and more often public holidays are misused for political activities," the foundation's Gert Opperman, said at a discussion forum arranged by the IFP in Pretoria.
He said the Freedom Park memorial space was not contributing to nation building, but was a project of the African National Congress, aimed at dividing the nation, and praising that party's achievements.
Complaints have been received over the selection of heroes to be remembered at the memorial. Critics say the list does not include some historic figures important to Afrikaners.
The IFP was taking submissions from organisations representing Afrikaners.
Affirmative action, the status of the Afrikaans language and minority rights were among the topics of discussion.
IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi is expected to address the forum later on Friday.
