SABMiller has decided to provide funding to political parties in the forthcoming South African elections, the JSE and London listed brewing giant said on Friday in a statement.
This it said, was "part of the group's continuing commitment to encourage the development of a multi-party democracy in South Africa".
The Board has asked its South African subsidiary, SAB Ltd, to make a donation of R5 million, which will be distributed across six parties, the statement said.
The ANC, DA IFP, UDM, ID and Cope will receive donations.
"Great strides have been made in recent years to foster a vibrant, multi-party democracy in South Africa and SABMiller is proud to have made a contribution to that achievement," said Meyer Kahn, chairman of SABMiller plc.
"Political progress will remain vital to the country's continued stability and growth, and for that reason we believe it continues to deserve our support."
SABMiller made contributions at the same level in the run up to the 1999 and 2004 elections and has not made any other political donations in South Africa outside of the national election cycle, the statement added.
