The badly burnt bodies of two people who were found on a farm in Dargle on Tuesday were of a recently married couple, who were strangled to death before being dumped and set alight, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said on Thursday that Alan O'Neale, 57, and Hannetjie Blom, 40, resided in the Merrivale area of Howick, just outside Pietermaritzburg.
"Their identities were established after vehicles belonging to the employers of both the deceased persons were found near the Dargle, Impendle T-junction and the other on the N3 highway near Hilton," Budhram said.
He said a post mortem was conducted, and that established that the couple were strangled before being set alight.
"The couple were attacked at their home, with the motive appearing to be revenge-related. However this is being investigated."
Their bodies were found by a young boy who was walking through dense bushes on Beverly farm in the Dargle area.
