Prison DancersMdatsane Correctional Services juveniles enjoyed a Mr Valentine's pageant on Saturday, the Eastern Cape Correctional Services department said.

"The centre's hall was filled with offenders and their family members who came to watch their sons taking part in some of the department's recreational programs which are aimed at changing and rebuilding their personalities," said spokesman Zama Feni.

Other activities of the day were competitions in body-building and dancing.

"It was a very joyful day inside the hall and the courtyard as mothers, girlfriends and relatives hugged and kissed."

Mdantsane's World Boxing Federation (WBF) women welterweight champion Nonnie Tenge called for offenders to take advantage of the sport and various other personal development opportunities that the department offers them.

"Don't waste your time whilst you are still here. Look, how young and smart you are, I advise you to use your talents to the best of your ability so that you can make the best out of yourselves."

"You must learn to respect the fact that you are sentenced, respect the authorities, have faith, be tolerant and focus on developing your talent," she said.
