Two men were arrested on Thursday for allegedly petrol-bombing a house and then trying to bribe the owner in Heidelberg, Gauteng police said.
The pair allegedly threw a petrol bomb into a house in Jordaan Park, Heidelberg, last week, Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate said.
"At the time of the incident, a woman, her two children and mother-in-law were in the house."
The bomb set a small part of the house alight, but was quickly extinguished by the gardener who spotted the flames and alerted the family.
"The gardener also spotted two men driving off in a BMW and took the registration number down."
A few days later the owner of the house was called, and was asked to present a cheque of R50,000 to the men, if he wanted information about the attack.
"He agreed to meet the men, but alerted police as well. The owner met them at Carnival City, and as he was about to present the cheque to the men, police pounced and arrested them."
They would appear in court soon, he said.
