A 70-year-old man was shot and wounded during a house robbery in Ferndale in Randburg on Friday, Gauteng police said.Inspector Kym Cloete said four men gained entry to the house around 3am on Friday.
The four locked one man and his wife in their room and then went to another room where the woman's father and his wife slept.
The two people locked inside the room heard a shot go off in the other room and heard items being moved around that room.
The robbers then fled on foot.
After the men fled, the daughter and her husband went into the other room and found her father with a gunshot wound to his stomach.
The wounded man was taken to hospital in a critical condition. No one else was injured during the robbery.
A case of house robbery and attempted murder was being investigated.
Netcare 911 emergency services spokesman Nick Dollman said the wounded man was taken to the Milpark hospital and admitted to the trauma unit in a critical condition.
