It was crucial for huge numbers of people to go out to vote in support of the ANC so that the ruling party can implement policies and priorities set out in its manifesto, Tokyo Sexwale said on Sunday. The ANC National Executive Committee member was addressing hundreds of ANC supporters at a rally in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, SABC news reported.
He urged them to work towards ensuring that huge numbers of people turn out to vote.
"Numbers are very, very crucial... crucial so that the ANC can be able to implement the type of priorities, in particular those it has put in its manifesto. But they are also important for the ANC to continue to govern, especially in the current economic climate which is confronted with a global recession and downturn.
"We need to make sure that our policies continue to protect our people... it is not going to be an easy time," Sexwale said.
